Autism Society Ontario - Regional Support Leaders

 This newly created contract position will report to the Executive Director of Autism Society Ontario and is one of 5 part-time positions (10 - 20 hours/week for 30 weeks in 2002/03; 40 weeks/year in 2003-05) in Ontario (London area, Ottawa/Cornwall, and York Region) who will work collaboratively on this project.  This is a 1-year renewable contract with a 3-month probationary period. Travel to Toronto (and other potential locations in Ontario) for training will be required.

 The responsibilities will be as follows:

·         Provide support and education to parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and interested professionals in a designated region

·         To develop and distribute five resource booklets on special education and adult issues collaboratively with other ASO regional support leaders

·         Establish excellent working relationships with regional autism service providers

·         Provide at least 3 training seminars per year

·         Provide individual consultations to families of children with PDD/ ASDs

·         Some evening and occasional weekend work required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         A 4 year bachelor’s degree in Human Services/Education/Psychology

·         Demonstrated understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders

·         Demonstrated ability/experience working with people (children to adults) with ASD and their families

·         Demonstrated ability/experience working with service providers in the community

·         Excellent written & oral communication skills

·         Demonstrated adult education and presentation skills to small and large groups

·         Excellent organizational skills; flexibility, and creativity

·         Strong skills in Computer/Internet/Information management

·         Highly developed counselling and interpersonal skills

·         An ability to prioritize and meet deadlines: balance a number of tasks and be detail oriented

·         a valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a vehicle
